OVHcloud is a cloud provider founded in France in 1999. Its US subsidiary, OVHcloud US, runs data centers in Vint Hill, Virginia and Hillsboro, Oregon.
The simplest product is the VPS range. VPS-1 has 2 vCores, 4 GB of RAM and 40 GB of NVMe storage for $5.35 a month, or $4.54 a month when 12 months are paid upfront, with unlimited traffic and a daily backup included. Public Cloud adds pay-as-you-go instances, from $0.0129 an hour for a shared Discovery instance and $0.0605 for a General Purpose b3-8, plus a free managed Kubernetes control plane, managed databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Valkey) with paid plans from about $56 a month, S3-compatible object storage without egress fees and GPU instances from $0.88 an hour. Outbound traffic in the US regions and anti-DDoS protection are included. New customers can get up to $300 in Public Cloud credit.
Best for
Developers and small businesses that want low-cost virtual servers with included traffic and DDoS protection in US data centers, and teams that want hourly cloud instances, managed Kubernetes and S3-compatible storage from the same provider.
Pros
- VPS-1 (2 vCores, 4 GB RAM, 40 GB NVMe) costs $5.35 a month, or $4.54 a month with 12 months paid upfront
- Traffic is included: US VPS plans have unlimited traffic, and Public Cloud outbound traffic in the US regions is not billed
- Anti-DDoS protection on every product at no extra cost, with no limit on attack volume or number of attacks
- Up to $300 in Public Cloud credit for new customers: $200 for a first project, $100 more for a first managed database
- Free managed Kubernetes control plane; Savings Plans cut B3, C3 and R3 instance prices by 15% (12 months) or 30% (36 months)
Cons
- Paid managed databases start at about $56 a month (Valkey Essential, one node); PostgreSQL and MySQL Essential cost $64.24 a month; none of the three Essential plans has an SLA
- Only two full US regions (Vint Hill, VA and Hillsboro, OR); US Local Zones support only compute, block and object storage
- Stopped or paused Public Cloud instances are still billed; only deleting an instance, or shelving an hourly one, stops or cuts the charge
- The free credit needs a $0.99 purchase, can take up to 30 days to arrive and expires 90 days after it is applied
- The managed Kubernetes control plane's 99.5% availability target carries no service credits
