Cursor is an AI code editor from Anysphere, the company SpaceX acquired in August 2026. The desktop app is built on the VS Code codebase, so your VS Code extensions, themes, settings and keybindings import in one click. Its Agent reads your project, edits files, runs terminal commands and saves checkpoints you can restore. Cloud agents, automations and Bugbot code reviews come with Premium and higher plans, and the agent also works in a CLI and, on paid plans, in JetBrains IDEs.

Individual plans now bundle Cursor with Grok and X features. Plus ($8 a month) runs Grok models only. Premium ($30), Super ($100) and Ultra ($200) add more usage and let you pick OpenAI, Anthropic and Google models, billed separately at API list prices. Teams starts at $30 per user a month.

Best for

Developers who want an AI-first editor that feels like VS Code and want to switch between Grok, OpenAI, Anthropic and Google models in one app.

Pros

  • Familiar VS Code-based editor: extensions, themes, settings and keybindings import in one click
  • Wide model choice on Premium and higher: Grok plus OpenAI, Anthropic and Google models
  • The agent edits across files, runs terminal commands and saves checkpoints you can restore
  • Free plan to try it, and Privacy Mode keeps your code out of model training

Cons

  • OpenAI, Anthropic and Google models are billed on top of the plan at API list prices
  • The $8 Plus plan runs Grok models only
  • Individual plans bundle X (social) and Grok app features alongside the editor
  • Included usage refreshes weekly; past it you buy top-offs or wait
