Constant Contact is an email marketing platform for small businesses and nonprofits, founded in 1995 and based in Waltham, Massachusetts. Besides email campaigns with a drag-and-drop editor, AI copy generator and templates, it includes social media posting, sign-up forms and landing pages, event registration with payments and more than 300 integrations. US customers can add SMS, and Premium includes 500 messages a month.

There is no free plan; the 30-day free trial allows 100 email sends. Lite starts at $12 a month, Standard at $35 and Premium at $80, rising with your number of active email contacts. Prepaying 12 months saves 15%, bringing them to $10.20, $29.75 and $68 a month. Each plan allows monthly sends of 10, 12 or 24 times your contact tier, and extra sends cost $0.002 each instead of being blocked. Lite includes 1 automation template, Standard 3, and Premium unlimited templates plus custom automations.

Best for

Small businesses, nonprofits and event organizers that want email, social posting, event registration and US SMS in one tool, with live phone and chat support on every plan, and that do not need a free plan.

Pros

  • Live phone and chat support and 1:1 onboarding on every plan, including Lite
  • Social posting, event registration with payments and 300+ integrations on all plans
  • Sends past the monthly allowance still go out at $0.002 each, and automated emails such as welcome series do not count toward it
  • Premium allows sends of 24 times your contact tier, unlimited users and custom automations, with 500 US SMS a month included
  • Nonprofits save 20% when prepaying 6 months or 30% when prepaying 12 months

Cons

  • No free plan; the 30-day trial allows 100 email sends, and landing pages and events go live only after you upgrade
  • Lite has 1 user, 1 automation template, 1 custom segment and no email scheduling or subject line A/B testing
  • Custom automations, ecommerce automation templates and ecommerce segments need Premium, from $80 a month
  • Billing follows the highest number of active contacts you have had; bounced contacts count, and deleting contacts does not lower your tier
  • No plan lists paid newsletter subscriptions or a subscriber referral program; Inbox Preview is a $10-a-month add-on
